YOGA THE AMERICAN WAY

Feel like a yoga "failure" because you do not do the "Yoga Shoulds"?

  • I should have a daily home asana and pranayama practice
  • I should meditate one hour-ish every night
  • I should meditate one hour-ish every morning
  • I should actively live the yamas and niyamas
  • I should be mindful of my body, listening to what it needs and wants

"Yoga the American Way"

  • We practice in groups, at the studio, gym, community center, etc.
  • We practice when it fits into our schedule, 2-3x a week if we are lucky
  • We really do not meditate, sitting for 5 minutes without moving sounds like torture to most
  • We see yoga as a competition
  • We think of yoga first as exercise and years later, maybe something more
  • We secretly think that people that follow all of the "yoga shoulds" are weirdos
